Here is another idea for red beans for those who don’t have cans of beans on hand. I buy the Furmano's read beani seasoning packets which are pretty cheap. Combine with whatever you like in your red bean. I usually do canned tomatoes, onion, hamburger meat, pinto beans, frozen corn. It’s very cheap and filling.
Red Beans Crockpot Recipe
Prep: 15 minutesCook: 6-8 hours
Meal Preparation Ingredients:
- 16 ounces kidney beans
- 1 large bell pepper, chopped
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 stalks celery, chopped
- 1 small carrot, finely sliced
- 1 tablespoon Tabasco sauce
- 4 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1/4 teaspoon thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon sage
- 1/4 teaspoon marjoram
- 3 tablespoons parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
- 1/2teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper
- Put everything in the crock pot on high heat.
- Cook on high, covered for 6-10 hours. Check liquid level, adding water if needed to cover the beans.
- You can add ham or beef to complete the meal.
Serves 20 – serve with a dinner salad and some fresh dinner rolls for a complete healthy dinner.
Tip: Double the ingredients for a make ahead freezer meal!
