Weight Loss Exercises - High and Low Intensity Exercises - Exercise is a natural way to burn and hence reduce fats on the body. Intensity is generally defined as the amount of power exerted per unit of time. However research has shown that when exercise is done according to certain rules and criteria it can be more beneficial. Some people do intensive physical exercises like body building, football, basketball etc and yet others do light physical exercises i.e. a morning walk, jogging or bicycling. Which exercise is better? Indeed both exercises will do the job as more energy is burned during exercising than when doing nothing. With high intensity exercise more fat is burned because the physical activity level is high but mostly for over-weight people probably low intensity exercise is better because low intensity exercise do not stress the body too much and hence can help regulate the appetite.

Weight Loss Exercises - High and Low Intensity Exercises

High intensity exercises help increase the metabolism of the body and thus burns more fats. In a short period of time a person is able to shed away high quantity of fat. On the other hand, in a low intensity exercise a person has to do a much longer exercise to shed away the same amount of fat. However, high intensity exercise is not at all beneficial for beginners and those having certain health problems. Also for those who wish to lose weight high intensity exercise is not that much recommendable because due to the fact that it results in loss of body nutrients, a person would feel more cravings for food. This indeed reduces the potential to lose weight as more eating means more calories are induced in the body. Numerous research work where high and low intensity exercises were compared concluded that the reason why high intensity exercises cause lesser weight loss is the post exercise eating. After high intensity exercises, a person’s appetite increases drastically which means more calories added to the body. With high intensity exercise, injury or aerobic adaptation is also an issue. Therefore it’s advisable to build up slowly and consult a health physician before deciding to perform any high intensity exercise.

Low intensity exercise takes much time to burn the same amount of fat as that burned by high intensity exercise but is more beneficial. Whichever intensity of your exercise plan is it’s always advisable to warm up slowly and cool down gradually; these are the features of low intensity exercises but even high intensity exercises should be preceded with low intensity exercise. Low intensity exercises reduces body fatigue particularly people who do exercises after a long day’s fatigue. This exercise is generally for a longer period of time and it’s slow and soothing and hence keeps the mind fresh and active. The hazards associated with this type of exercise is generally low and even without consulting a physician a person can carry out his exercise plan. The body fats burns at a slower rate thus longer total period of exercise required.

It has been found from research that low intensity exercise uses primary fat as fuel while high intensity exercise utilizes carbohydrates as fuel. It may be a good idea to do both high and low intensity exercise together as both have their own advantages but the general preference for most heavy weight persons should be low intensity exercise. For those who are beginners, low intensity exercise is the best so that their body can slowly adapt to exercising and they have to face lesser issues of health and safety. Once the body has adapted to this low intensity exercise then introducing a higher intensity exercise will help lose further fat. Yet there are group of researchers who believe that high intensity exercise is more beneficial. Those who reached this conclusion argue that fat loss is a function of energy consumed and high intensity exercise consume more fat. Read also: Causes of Obesity and Its Effects On Health
